"The Baltic Explorer" 11 Days

Day 1 USA-Warsaw
Depart from the US on Finnair for overnight flight to Warsaw.

Day 2 Warsaw
Upon arriving in Warsaw, you will be met and driven to your hotel. In the evening, your guide will join you for a welcome drink at the hotel.

Day 3 Tallinn
After breakfast, the day begins with a city tour of Warsaw. This includes the Old Town, reconstructed after World War II, an example of the historic values and modern needs. Visit art galleries, shops, charming restaurants, cafes, and craftsmen workshops. Continue along to the Royal Route with its beautiful palaces, aristocratic residences, famous statues and historic churches. Also visit the historical sights of Warsaw � the Ghetto Memorial, the Monument of the Warsaw Uprising, The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Chopin's Monument and the Belvedere Palace. In the afternoon, take an excursion to Wilanow, the summer residence of King Jan III Sobieski. (B)

Day 4 Warsaw - Druskininkai - Vilnius
Depart by motorcoach to Vilnius with a stop in Druskininkai, the oldest health resort in Lithuania. The pride of this town is its mineral springs. In 1794, the king of Poland and Lithuania announced a decree officially designating it as a health resort. However, it became a health resort only after I. Fonberg, a professor of Vilnius University, studied the spring water and recommended to the Czar government that this town should establish a resort in the area (1837). Lunch will be provided in Druskininkai. In the afternoon, continue to Grutas village for a visit to Grutas Park - an open-air exhibition of Soviet-era sculptures and monuments. Late afternoon arrival in Vilnius. (B,L).

Day 5 Vilnius - Trakai - Vilnius
Start your sightseeing with a tour to Vilnius. This city has been the capital of Lithuania for more than 600 years. This morning excursion includes St. Peter and Paul's Church, Cathedral Square, St, Ann and Bernadine's Church, the Gates of Dawn with a holy image of the Virgin Mary, Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Spirit, Town Hall Square, Vilnius University (founded 1579) and St. John's Church. You will continue to Trakai (25 km from Vilnius),the former capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Visit the insular castle of the 14th century erected on a small island in lake Galve. For ages it served as a defensive structure and residence of Lithuanian Grand Dukes.(B)

Day 6 Vilnius - Rundale - Riga
Today you will drive to Rundale and visit the Rundale Palace. This palace is an example of the early work of F.B. Rastrelli, who also designed the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. Arrival in Riga, the capital of Latvia. (B)

Day 7 Riga - Parnu- Tallinn
After breakfast, you will begin the day with a city tour of Riga. Visit the Riga Castle, St. Peter's Church, the Old Guided Houses and Dome Cathedral, which houses one of the world's largest pipe organs. In the afternoon, depart for Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. En route you will have an opportunity to visit the resort town of Parnu. All new visitors are certainly made welcome. More than a hundred years of experience as a resort destination has molded the city into a getaway extraordinaire - a sanctuary for the body and the mind. Building on a late 19th-century tradition of mud baths, P�rnu continues to cultivate a thriving health resort industry. Arrival in Tallinn. (B)

Day 8 Tallinn
A morning sightseeing tour of the Old Town of Tallinn will show you examples of classic architecture in the Baltic and Nordic countries. Visit the Toompea Castle fortifications, the Dome Church (13th century), the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Alexander Nevskij (19th century), Town Hall Square (15th century), St. Olaf's Church and the Old Guild, which was built to celebrate Tallinn's membership to the Hanseatic League. In the afternoon, you are free to do some souvenir shopping or just take a stroll through the Old Town. (B)

Day 9 Tallinn - St. Petersburg
Continue to enjoy your free time in Tallinn. Late in the afternoon you will be transferred from your hotel to the harbor for the overnight ferry o St. Petersburg.(B)

Day 10 St. Petersburg
Upon your arrival, you will be met by our representative and transferred to a local restaurant for breakfast. After breakfast, you will begin a city tour of St Petersburg, which includes a panoramic view of the most interesting architectural and historical sights of the town. You will visit the Neva River embankments, Admiralty, Decembrists' Square, Palace Square, Nevsky Prospect, Isaac's Square with a visit to St Isaac's Church. After checking into your hotel, you will visit the Hermitage Museum, which has one of the largest collections of Western European art. You will continue to the Winter Palace which is famous for its huge frescoed hall, marble, wood and mosaic floors, antique furniture, and statues. (B)

Day 11 St. Petersburg
After breakfast, you'll take an excursion to Peterhoff (also known as Petrodvorets), the former palace of Peter the Great. You will visit the Grand Palace and its park with many sculptures, the unique 144 fountain and cascade system. It has been breathtakingly restored since World War II. (B)

Day 12 St. Petersburg
On this day, you will be transferred to your flight back home.
