Step 1. Complete a web-based Russian visa application form on http://visa.kdmid.ru/. Please, read carefully detailed instructions (click to open) provided by Go To Russia Travel before you start filling in the visa application. Please make sure you fill out ALL fields on the application form, including your employment history and educational institutions you attended. The Russian Consulate will not accept incomplete applications. Also, please note, that for any updates on the application forms after submission to the Consulate, a non-refundable fee of $25 will be charged. If you have already obtained a Russian visa in the past, please, note that you cannot use the same visa application again. The application process takes approximately 45-60 minutes. If you are not able to complete the online application and prefer using the old format application form, please click here. Please note: $30 fee and 2 additional processing days apply to applications submitted in an old format. For urgent visas and application updates required faster than in 2 business days, the service fee is $50.

Step 2. Please, submit the following documents to our office:

  • Completed and printed Russian visa application
  • Your APPLICATION ID and PASSWORD for Russian visa application. Please, note additional $30 fee will be charged for re-typing your application form for orders without this information
  • Letter of invitation from the host organizaton. For more information please click here
  • Passport (Please, make sure your passport is signed and has at least 2 blank visa-designated pages. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months after expiration of your Russian visa). If you have a second passport with a valid Russian visa in it, please send its original along with the passport you plan to use for the visa application. The Russian consulate will need to cancel your current visa before a new visa can be issued. If your previous passport (with a valid Russian visa in it) was lost or stolen, please, provide a copy of police report.
  • 2 passport size photos (2 x 2, front of the face, plain background, taken no earlier than 6 months prior to visa application). Please, note photos submitted by e-mail are no longer accepted by the Consulate.

  • For applicants born in Former USSR:

    Copy of Proof of absence of Russian citizenship.
    If you're born in formerly USSR: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan,Turkmenistan, Ukraine, or Uzbekistan, please submit the documents confirming the absence of Russian citizenship, such as:

    - a copy of your old Soviet passport that has departure stamp dated prior to February of 1992 and indicates that you immigrated for permanent residency;

    -a copy of the visa to the country where you immigrated, in case your Soviet passport was confiscated upon departure;

    - a copy of the document issued by Russian consulate or Embassy that verifies renouncement of your Russian citizenship, in case you renounced it officially;

    - a copy of the passport issued by another country (including former Soviet republics) with departure stamp, in case you left that country and were a citizen of that country at the time of your departure.

    - a letter from the Social Security Administration stating that the SSN was issued before February of 1992 (Please, note that this letter is not always accepted by the Russian Consulate as a sufficient Proof of absence of Russian citizenship and should be submitted only if other documents listed above are not available).

    Please note that becoming a US citizen does not make one automatically lose the Russian citizenship. If you still hold the Russian citizenship, you are required to use a valid Russian travel passport for traveling to Russia, and cannot apply for a Russian visa with the US passport. The Russian Consulate does not accept visa applications from Russian-US dual citizens. Rare exceptions (death in the family, medical emergency, etc.) can be made on a case by case basis. Please call our office for details.
